New Class for Fall

I’m currently prepping to teach at a weekend retreat and here’s a sneak peek of the sample for one of the classes I will be presenting. I call it “A Woven and Twisted Heart.”

This abstract heart pendant features 3 different weaves, the sumac, a 3/3 weave, and coiling, along with flourishes of twisted wire and some spirals.  There’s a good deal of room in this design to play and make your own variation.  The pendant is about 1 1/2″ long and can be worn at a variety of lengths.  The class is 3 hours long and costs $50, materials included.

If you would like to learn how to make your own heart, contact me to schedule or call Artisans of Metal and Thread.

How to Coil – Video Post

CoilingCloseupHere’s the first installment in my techniques video series.  This quick 2-minute video will show you the basic technique required to produce tight even coils by hand.  Most would think, at least I did, that coiling would be the easiest technique to master; but, the opposite is true.  Tension is very important and most new weavers are afraid to get so friendly with their wire.  However, with practice you can achieve tight, uniform, beautiful coils similar to the ones on this piece:rosette
