Beach Retreat – Open for Registration

I don’t know about you, but for me, the beach and ocean air are restorative and inspiring.  For these reasons, the coast is a perfect location to learn new techniques and relax.  Barbara Kennedy of Artisans of Metal and Thread and I will be doing a retreat at the Surfrider Resort in Depot Bay next month!  The retreat runs Saturday November 14 and Sunday November 15.  We are teaching 4 classes total and you don’t need to bring anything except yourself to the retreat because all materials required for the class projects are included in your $200 retreat registration fee!

The classes will teach you a bunch of techniques including:

  • Basic Beading
  • Bead Wrapping
  • Cold Connections
  • Finishing
  • Forging
  • Leather Basics
  • Oxidizing
  • Using Findings
  • Wire Wrapping
  • Wire Weaving
  • Working with Metal

We’ve reserved a block of rooms at a special retreat rate of $79.99 per night (1 Queen Bed) or $129.99 (2 Queen Beds), but you are welcome to stay anywhere in or around Depot Bay.  The Surfrider has gorgeous views and beach access as well as a restaurant and bar.

For your shopping pleasure, Beluga Beads (formerly Roots Beads) is within short walking distance.

Come and spend the weekend with Barbara and Michele and rejuvenate your creative soul!  Call 503-720-2925 for more information and to register now!

New Class for Fall

I’m currently prepping to teach at a weekend retreat and here’s a sneak peek of the sample for one of the classes I will be presenting. I call it “A Woven and Twisted Heart.”

This abstract heart pendant features 3 different weaves, the sumac, a 3/3 weave, and coiling, along with flourishes of twisted wire and some spirals.  There’s a good deal of room in this design to play and make your own variation.  The pendant is about 1 1/2″ long and can be worn at a variety of lengths.  The class is 3 hours long and costs $50, materials included.

If you would like to learn how to make your own heart, contact me to schedule or call Artisans of Metal and Thread.
